CycleScape

Final BSc Studio Project
Project Overview
CycleScape looks at three different themes, farming, cycling and education. The design is a barrier to the landscape from Reading, allowing casual walkers, community gardeners or cyclists to move throughthe landscape at different speeds. Interventions throughout the landscape offer scope for sustainability, reuse, and the continued life of Merino Sheep in this country, as well as a detour for people. The project engages with the landscape and local biodiversity for a community-driven space.

Forced views throughout the project allow for focus on various aspects from farming, cycling, cricket and the landscape. The main produce are oats, merino sheep cycling socks and sheep’s milk. It’s a space for cyclists to break during a cycle, walkers to visit, and communities to gather. Cycling reduces pollution, reduces habitat fragmentation, increases green spaces and increases awareness of biodiversity, a step closer towards a healthier, more sustainable world.

The project features a cycle route which runs through, and is framed throughout the maintenance hub, allowing for continued cycling into the landscape and the further promotion of healthier transport and getting communities and Reading into cycling in a safe, friendly manner; while also providing a necessary service to maintenance bicycles during a ride, or recycle unneeded parts to the reuse centre.
